Big congratulations to Richard who is our Star Contractor of the Month for November!
Richard, who is a perfect example of reliability and dedication, has been a strong contender for this award for quite a few months now! As a Ford-trained contract vehicle technician, he has been part of our Manufacturer Led Programme since June 2018. He worked his socks off in deepest darkest Norfolk during November at Ford Norwich, getting up at 2.30 am to travel to the site from Kidderminster and staying in Norwich during the week.
We can’t ignore the fact that Richard is also a great advocate for our business on social media and all-round good guy with a great personality.
Congratulations from everyone at Autotech Recruit, Richard! A worthy winner!
Our Contractor of the Month receives a Certificate of Recognition and £100 worth of Love2Shop vouchers.
We asked Richard to share a few thoughts about being a vehicle technician and working with Autotech Recruit…
What made you become a technician?
I’ve always been interested in all things mechanical. As a teenager, I had several motorcycles in pieces in my mum’s garden and made scary bikes to take over the local sand quarry. Let’s just say I learned by my mistakes when I was young!
What is your favourite make of car and why?
I have several but the ones that make me smile are my 1975 F100 36OCI LHD pick up that does 8 miles (smiles) to the gallon and my jacked-up Mitsubishi L200 that I use for my charity work, which is everything from picking up doctors and nurses in the bad weather to setting up Cancer Research UK Pretty Muddy and Race for Life.
What is the best car you have ever got to fix?
When I was a bit younger and 2-star petrol was still in the pumps, I got to work on a Mini 1275. It was the first full rebuild of the engine and running gear that I did as an apprentice. But a few decades later I had fixed everything from 60’s Land Rovers, Yanks, and even the odd Reliant…
What is the best thing about being a technician?
Helping people to get their mobility back and when some people say: “You’ll never fix THAT….” and I do.
If you weren’t a technician, what would you be?
Well, that’s an easy one! A truck driver as I like to travel.
What 3 words sum up your work with Autotech Recruit?
Flexibility… Having a severely disabled daughter and disabled wife at home, it is easy to book time off for hospital visits, etc.
Variety… Every placement is different and no two are the same, from working on brand new Ford Mustangs and hot hatches to classic old Transits.
Regularity… A bit of a funny one, but working with Autotech Recruit, I always have a regular income when I want it. They always find a placement for me. I’ve been from Norfolk to Newtown (Wales) and most places in between.
What is your perfect Sunday?
Umm, that’s a difficult one as I’m ALWAYS on the go. It could be a 3 am start to set up CRUK and helping 3000 ladies get muddy or the 5 am start in the middle of winter when it’s -10°C and heavy snow to pick up some nurses so they can get to work… But I think the best Sundays are when I’m at the Manx GP on the Isle of Man as I marshal at Ballacraine and Sundays that I get to spend with my daughter.
