We are currently recruiting for a Workshop Manager to join our well established client. They operate a mixed fleet of 130 owned vehicles from vans to 44 tonne articulated combinations, and a mixed fleet of over 100 trailers.
The Workshop Manager role is critical in ensuring our client remains compliant with obligations in law and as holder of a goods vehicle operator's licence. Their drivers rely on their vehicles to deliver pallets around the UK every day and the workshop is key in ensuring the vehicles are serviceable for the drivers.
To role is to effectively manage and control the established Commercial Vehicle Workshop and provide technical support when needed to their workshop in Skelmersdale. Managing all aspects of the workshop including Staffing, Costs, Compliance and Service and MOT Schedules.
Responsibilities and duties:
Ensuring that Health & Safety in the workshop is maintained at all times.
Maintain standards to ensure first time MOT pass compliance.
Creating and maintaining vehicle service and MOT schedules.
Implement and maintain adequate preventative maintenance schedules to ensure all legal compliance is adhered to at all times.
Ensure first time fix on all vehicles and trailers utilising internal resources, and if required external resources to reduce vehicle VOR times.
Proactively investigating faults and advising and implementing changes to avoid future problems.
Ensure all workshop processes are adhered to at all times.
Communicating clearly with colleagues at all levels, and suppliers, including by phone and email.
Working with relevant internal teams to ensure all workshop equipment is maintained, safe for use, and complies with all legislation.
Managing the workflow and day to day activities of the workshop, including maintaining minimal resource requirements, on-call rotas, and holiday records.
Managing breakdown situations and changing demands on vehicle fleet.
Identifying training needs and developing staff including apprentices.
Procuring parts and accessories at best price and managing the invoice process and ensuring all spend is accounted for on the workshop management systems.
Compiling reports as and when required for management.
Knowledge/experience/qualifications required for this role:
Management ability and appropriate technical qualifications (City & Guilds / NVQ / Time served).
Full knowledge of all relevant commercial vehicle legislation and Operator's undertakings in regard to vehicle maintenance.
Knowledge of Texa Diagnostic equipment and Jaama Key 2 fleet management system (or similar FMS).
Knowledge of Stock management.
Strong planning and organisational skills, understanding of priorities and time management. Good problem solving skills.
Ability to work well under pressure, multitask, and adjust priorities, while maintaining high levels of accuracy and service.
Fully conversant with Microsoft Office packages especially Excel and Word.
Knowledge of FORS requirements.
Knowledge of Direct Vision Standard.
Knowledge of tuck under tail lifts.
Knowledge of in-cab camera and communication systems
Management of 3rd party supplier work.
