This June, a cohort of Autotech Group employees will take on their most demanding fundraising event yet - the 3 Peaks Challenge. The timing of our announcement, 28 March, holds special significance as it coincides with Brain Tumour Awareness Month and 'Wear A Hat Day'. Across the UK, hundreds of individuals are donning hats to raise essential funds and awareness to help find a cure for brain tumours. Among them, is the Autotech Group team. Raising money for charity has been deep-rooted within Autotech Group since the company was founded in 2010, but this latest effort is part of the company’s greatest pledge yet - to raise over £10,000 for Brain Tumour Research during 2024.
The charity is close to the heart of the company, following the brain tumour diagnosis of Autotech Group’s founder, Gavin White. So committed are the company’s employees to fundraising for the charity, that they raised close to £7k by participating in Brain Tumour Research’s Walk of Hope just weeks after Gavin’s diagnosis in August 2023.
With several fundraising initiatives planned throughout 2024, the 3 Peaks Challenge will undoubtedly be the jewel in the crown.
The challenging task involves climbing to the peak of the highest mountains in three of the home nations: Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in Scotland, and Yr Wyddfa in Wales.
Across the weekend in June, the Autotech Group 3 Peaks Challenge ‘Autotrekers’ team will walk 23 miles and ascend over 11,000 feet.
Several family members and friends of the company have also committed to take part and are joining the ‘Autotrekers’ ranks and participating in the fundraising efforts.
Autotech Group’s Chief Technology Officer, Laurence Abbott, comments: “Undoubtedly, this will be our biggest fundraising challenge to date, and we have been delighted with the response. Everyone within Autotech Group is involved in some way, from participating in the actual walk to driving the Autotrekers from peak to peak, to supporting our fundraising efforts.
‘Together’ is one of our company values and the team is certainly embracing this in our collaborative mission to raise vital funds for Brain Tumour Research.”
Why Brain Tumour Research needs more funding
Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease since records began in 2002. Here’s how far sponsorship money can go to help research:
- £25 - Could fund a PhD student to work in a lab for one day
- £50 - Could pay a Senior Research Fellow to run a lab for an hour
- £150 - could pay for a Research Nurse to collect brain tumour tissue from the hospital each day
- £300 - could pay for all of the solutions, pipettes and dishes needed by a centre each day to work on analysing the behaviour of brain tumour cells
- £1000 - could pay for a research paper to be published in a high-impact scientific journal, providing another piece of the jigsaw to help us get closer to the cure
- £2740 - sponsor a day of research
As we embark on this monumental challenge, we invite you to join us in making a difference. Your support is invaluable as 'Autotrekers' strive to raise awareness and vital funds for brain tumour research. Together, we can climb new heights in the fight against this devastating disease. Please consider donating today to help us reach our 3 Peaks Challenge fundraising goal and bring hope to those affected by brain tumours. Thank you for your generosity and support.
