ABout the Benefits & Process

More technicians are leaving permanent roles behind for the flexibility of freelance work.

If you’re exploring automotive contract jobs we’re here to guide you.

Autotech Recruit makes the move simple and stress-free so you can take control of your career.

What are the benefits of contracting?

People come to us for contract roles because of benefits such as:

Increased earnings

With higher hourly rates than most permanent positions and flexible payment options that can help you take home a larger net pay, contracting offers you the opportunity to make more money.

Tax relief on expenses

Contracting through your own limited company can offer significant tax savings. We recommend getting professional advice to stay compliant and maximise benefits.

Flexibility

Contracting gives you the freedom to set your own working schedule; you can work a few days a week or full time throughout the year, depending on what best suits your lifestyle.

Improved work/life balance

As a contractor, you decide when and where you work, giving you the flexibility to prioritise family time, take weekends off, or create any work-life balance that suits you.

We’ll do the leg work for you

With an ever-growing client base across the UK, from independent garages and national fast-fit chains to main dealer workshops, we connect skilled technicians and testers with the right contract opportunities.

Variety keeps things interesting

Maintain a varied and fulfilling career by working with a wide range of automotive businesses through both short-term placements and longer contracts.

No workshop politics

Contracting lets you concentrate on the task at hand without being side-tracked by long-term organisational commitments, workplace politics or management changes.

Free training and skills development

After three months of regular work with Autotech Recruit, our contractors gain access to free IMI training, including EV, ADAS, Air-Con, and Annual MOT CPD, delivered by Autotech Training.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do Autotech Recruit contractors get paid?

Submit a signed timesheet each week and if we receive it on time, you’ll be paid the following Friday. Payments can be made through a limited company, sole trader or umbrella company, depending on your preference and setup.

What if I have penalty points on my MOT testing history?

Unfortunately, we can’t register candidates with a history of MOT testing penalty points on their record. This is a strict requirement to maintain industry standards and compliance.

Can I freelance just at weekends or during holidays?

Yes, many of our contractors choose to work weekends or during annual leave, depending on their main employer’s policies. This flexibility allows you to fit freelancing around your existing commitments.

How flexible is freelancing with Autotech Recruit?

Freelancing with us is highly flexible – you choose the days and contracts that suit you. Just make sure to keep your availability up to date so we can match you with the right opportunities.

Do I need my own tools?

Yes, if you’re working as a vehicle technician, you’ll need to provide your own top box instead of your full roll cab. Bringing this allows you to stay organised and perform at your best wherever you’re working.

Can anyone help me with my expenses?

If you’re a sole trader or operate through a limited company, your accountant can assist with expenses. Umbrella company contractors typically can’t claim expenses due to their tax structure.
