Delivering Experience and Stability to Busy Workshops
After 24 years in the motor industry, Jake knows exactly what good work looks like, and just as importantly, what a good working life should feel like.
Jake began his career in the early 2000s as an apprentice with a main dealer and steadily built his experience across a range of technical roles, including becoming an MOT tester and later managing multiple MOT testing lanes. Over time, he was also involved in setting up MOT bays, giving him a strong operational understanding of how workshops function under real‑world pressure.
These days, he brings that experience to his work as a contract vehicle technician with Autotech Recruit, a decision he made after a moment of reflection that many technicians will recognise.
A Turning Point and a Better Way Forward
In late 2021, Jake found himself at a crossroads. The Christmas break gave him the space to pause and properly consider what he wanted from the next stage of his career. That period of reflection led him to contracting, and in 2022, he joined Autotech Recruit, a move he describes as a turning point for the better.
Now over three years into contracting, Jake is clear it suits him far more than permanent employment ever did.
“You’re trusted to do the work you’ve been brought in for. Once the day’s done, it’s done and dusted. There’s no constant pressure – you’re left to get on with the job.”
That trust benefits everyone involved. Jake is known for arriving, integrating quickly, and delivering exactly what’s needed without fuss or friction.
A Specialist Clients Can Rely On
MOT testing remains Jake’s core strength. His experience across testing, setup, and lane management means clients gain more than just a pair of hands. They get someone who understands workflow, standards, and accountability from the inside out.
He also particularly enjoys working on VAG group vehicles, where his familiarity allows him to work efficiently while maintaining the high standards clients expect.
Professionalism That Reflects on the Brand
Jake takes pride not only in his technical ability, but in how he represents himself on‑site.
He describes himself as presentable and approachable, and is always conscious that he is representing both his own reputation and Autotech Recruit’s. The feedback he receives from clients consistently reinforces that approach, with many previous placements happy to bring him back again if availability allows.
For Jake, that repeat demand is the strongest measure of success.
Freedom Without Compromising Standards
One of the biggest advantages of contracting for Jake is not being tied to one workplace, while still enjoying a familiar Monday‑to‑Friday rhythm and steady work. Contracting gives him variety and control, without sacrificing stability or professionalism, removing the workplace politics while keeping the structure he values.
For clients, Jake is a reliable, experienced technician who strengthens workshop performance from day one.
For technicians considering contracting, his journey shows how a single decision, often made during a moment of reflection, can lead to a calmer, more rewarding way of working in the automotive industry.
