Job description

The Opportunity

We are recruiting for a skilled Night Shift Technician to join a high-performing engineering team within a critical, fast-paced operational environment.

This role will focus on the maintenance and repair of specialist ground support vehicles and plant equipment, ensuring operational reliability, safety, and full regulatory compliance. You’ll play a key role in keeping essential operations running smoothly in a highly regulated setting.

Key Responsibilities Maintenance & Repair

  • Conduct servicing, repairs, and maintenance on HGVs and plant equipment
  • Diagnose faults and identify required repairs efficiently
  • Carry out inspections, brake testing, and emissions checks
  • Ensure all work meets high engineering and safety standards

Workshop & Documentation

  • Complete job cards and inspection reports accurately and in real time
  • Record labour time, including non-productive hours
  • Coordinate with parts teams to ensure correct allocation and tracking of components
  • Report additional work requirements or delays promptly

Parts & Equipment Management

  • Identify and report urgent parts requirements (including VOR items)
  • Ensure correct handling and storage of parts, including warranty and exchange components
  • Report and quarantine faulty tools or equipment

Communication & Teamwork

  • Work closely with supervisors, controllers, and fellow technicians
  • Provide clear updates on job progress and completion
  • Maintain strong working relationships across operational teams

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all Health & Safety procedures and safe systems of work at all times
  • Use PPE correctly and promote a strong safety culture
  • Report accidents, hazards, and near misses promptly
  • Comply with quality, environmental, and safety management standards

What We’re Looking For Experience

  • Proven experience in vehicle maintenance and repair
  • Background in fleet, logistics, or operational environments
  • Experience working in a service-driven, high-pressure environment

Qualifications

  • Level 3 Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (essential)
  • HGV licence (desirable)
  • Forklift licence (desirable)

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Self-motivated with a proactive, “can-do” attitude
  • Ability to work independently on night shifts
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety practices
