This year, as part of our sponsorship of Ruben Hage Racing, we have expanded our student motorsport competition to invite automotive students from across the country to come and spend a day with Ruben and his team within the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge.

Our competition winner Tori-Leigh at Croft Circuit

One of our winners, Tori-Leigh, who has recently qualified from her Level 3 Light Vehicle Maintenance course and is a keen champion for young people in the industry, had a great day at Croft Circuit with the Ruben Hage Racing team.

‘When I arrived at Croft Circuit on 24 June, I was met by Laurence from Autotech Academy. We talked through how the day would go whilst we walked through the paddock to Ruben’s race team’s area. Once we got there, I got to meet the team, have a look round the truck, the cars and was even allowed to have a seat in the race car”, Tori-Leigh explains.

“We had a little chat with Ruben and his dad about what the cars were, what they cost, what the running procedure was and more. The team and Laurence were amazing all day!”

Each competition winner gets the opportunity to spend the day with the race team on Friday practice days, giving them an inside look into the preparation and skills needed to run a successful race team.

“Practice was on during the day on the Friday so we got to have a go at seeing what the team had to do during a day, what they had to do to monitor Ruben’s racing and what was involved in the pit stops whilst he was out on track. We got to understand how the lap timings worked too, which I thought was great!”, Tori-Leigh comments.

“I learnt so many things and managed to expand so much of the knowledge I already had when it comes to race cars and how the teams operate. This opportunity did not only benefit my light vehicle side of the automotive industry it also gave me a great insight to the motorsport side and racing. I loved every minute of the weekend we spent down in Croft, and I would 146% recommend this opportunity to anyone who has an interest in light vehicles or race cars”.
