Don’t Leave It Until January to Start Looking for Your New Motor Trade Job – There Are Opportunities Waiting for You Right Now

The end of 2016 is just around the corner and a common misconception amongst job seekers is that November and December can be poor months to look for work, due to the approaching of Christmas and end-of-year projects capturing the attention of employers.

Let us challenge that view and convince you that applying for a new job during this time can actually be one of the best ways for you to find work in the automotive industry. According to some, job seekers who persevere with their job search are actually more likely to find a job now than those who wait until January.

There are at least three good reasons why November and December are a great time to continue searching for automotive jobs.

Fewer applicants for motor trade jobs

Competition isn’t quite as strong as usual as a majority of job seekers take a break when Christmas is near. Continuing to apply for mechanic jobs throughout November and December means that you’ll face less competition from far fewer applicants, allowing you to stand out. A vacancy that may have had 40 applicants in June might only have 10 in December – those odds make it a lot easier for you to potentially get the job.

Temporary opportunities

Winter time is a busy time for many garages and bodyshops, and with their permanent staff taking the annual leave towards the end of the year or off sick with the seasonal flu, it is a great time for MOT testers and technicians looking for temporary work. Christmas costs a lot of money, so if you’d like to earn an additional income to cover the cost of festivities, you have a great chance at succeeding. Even if you don’t want to work as a contractor long-term, freelancing can be a fantastic route to permanent employment, giving you a great advantage in your job search. Not only will your CV show continuity of work, but also a variety of experience, which is really important for many employers.

The new year is closer than expected

Many people find themselves believing that there’s no point in applying for positions until January, mostly because they assume companies won’t be harming their bottom line results by making last-minute hires. That’s a misconception you can take advantage of. Many businesses will actually list jobs in November and December in an attempt to kick off hiring in January and hit the ground running in the new year. Getting into a new and great opportunity might be even easier than you’d expect if you keep your search running throughout the holidays.
