An Autotech Recruit temporary vehicle technician switched the workshop for the pitstop last week, working within the fast-paced environment of Brands Hatch.

The world-famous Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit was the setting for the 2019 Ginetta Racing Drivers Club season finale and contractor Nick spent five days with the FS Racing Team, fixing, testing and even changing burning breaks!

Herefordshire based Nick, 34, made the 170-mile journey to Longfield on Wednesday and was put up in a Campervan on site. “I’ve worked for Autotech Recruit for 3 years and have always been in work, however I have never ventured any further than an hour from home. When the opportunity to work at Brands Hatch arose, I jumped at the chance!”

Nick spent Thursday and Friday overseeing the checks and testing of the racing team’s three Ginetta vehicles from a pop-up workshop in the paddock. “It was similar to the work you would carry out during a MOT test, oil checks, breaks and tyre pressure. However during the testing stages you need to be able to do this quickly and the vehicles are under a lot of pressure. On the Thursday I had to change a set of breaks which had caught fire – not something I had done before!”

During the race event on Saturday and Sunday, Nick was based in the pit-stop ready to test and diagnose any issues when the vehicles came in. “As a car racing fan… I loved every minute of it!”
